Forensic Files DVD’s are now on sale at Amazon and other retail outlets — eight compilation DVDs in all, each containing 12 episodes.  I’ve selected some of my favorites for this collection.  Since we’ve produced more than 400 episodes in the 15 years we’ve been doing the series, I suspect some of them will be new-to-you and others, long-time favorites.  I’m sure the Forensic Files fans on your holiday gift list would enjoy all of them.

More good news:  Lifetime Television has licensed 100 of our best episodes to air under the “Medical Detectives” title. (Due to licensing restrictions, we aren’t able to call them “Forensic Files.”)  These episodes haven’t aired in some time and the stories are riveting.  Here are a few examples:

“A Voice From Beyond:” The 55-gallon drum was actually a makeshift coffin and the woman’s body had been placed inside 30 years earlier.  Before police could begin their investigation, they had to find out who she was and they hoped the barely legible pages of an address book would provide a clue to her identity.

“Shadow of a Doubt:” The woman was shot to death just one day before she was to testify against the man accused of robbing her.  He became the prime suspect, but he had a time-stamped videotape of his outdoor activities on the day of the murder.  Police asked a local physics professor to help them authenticate the tape, and he enabled them to see the killer hiding in the shadows.

“A Welcome Intrusion:” The husband shot an intruder who had attacked and murdered his wife.  He painted a tragic picture of harassment, stalking and revenge, and was praised for his valiant efforts to save his wife.  Four years later, new forensic evidence led police to re-examine the motives of this so-called “hero.”

“Elephant Tracks:” An elderly couple was bludgeoned to death in their home, but the crime went unsolved.  Two years later, the owner of a pawn shop was looking through a stack of old newspapers and came across an article about the murders.  There was a photograph of the victims, and the woman pictured was wearing an unusual elephant pendant necklace – a necklace which the owner realized was in her shop.

Some of these episodes have already aired on Lifetime, and broadcasts are scheduled to resume in first quarter 2012.  Be sure to watch for Medical Detectives on Lifetime!

And if you’re looking for an inspirational book, check out, “When Death Comes Knocking” by Kaye Robinson and Tony Windsor.  It tells the story we profiled in a 2009 Forensic Files episode entitled, “Smiley Face.”  Ms. Robinson was stabbed more than 30 times and had her throat cut, yet lived to tell about it.  I was asked to write the foreword and was honored to do so. Kaye’s enormous strength and courage provide lessons for us all. provide lessons for us all.
